Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers OneWhat are Dermal Fillers…

As we age the skin loses its elasticity and collagen causing our facial features to change. Lines and hollows start to become more noticeable and are often described as hills and valleys on the face. Environmental factors such as pollution and sun exposure will also age the skin more prematurely. Common examples of lines and wrinkles are, Lip stick lines on the top lip, Marionette lines, corners of the mouth and the lines at the side of the nose to the sides of the mouth, which are called Nasolabial folds.

Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally-occurring substance found in the body. It helps your cells retain moisture, making your skin appear hydrated, plump, and healthy.

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are safe and reversible, injectable gels which provide to smooth away the appearance of lines, wrinkles and creases and enhance facial shape. They are used to plump up and temporarily fill in these lines, acts as a cushioning agent and provides a scaffold to lift folds.

The effects of Hyaluronic Acid may last between six months to one year. This is dependent on your body’s natural metabolism. The chosen filler and the amount of filler used, will depended on the size and depth of the treatment area and this will require careful consideration by your practitioner during your consultation. Most Hyaluronic Acid fillers have lidocaine (a numbing agent) in them to help minimise discomfort during and after treatment.·

Dermal Fillers TwoThe Dermal Filler Procedure

The treatment site is cleansed with antiseptic. A topical anaesthetic cream is then applied for 20 / 30 mins. Hyaluronic Acid is injected into the desired area, using a sterile pre-packed syringe and needle to a depth necessary to soften the fold / reduce deep lines or enhance the lip area. Multiple injections may be used. Following injections, the practitioner will massage the area to enhance the effect. After the initial treatment further treatments may be needed to achieve the desired effect, this would be discussed at your initial consultation.

Periodic enhancement injections will help to sustain the desired effect. We will go over your important after care and you will have a care leaflet to take home.

REMEMBER!

It may require two/three treatment procedures to achieve your lip goals, patience is key to build safely and naturally. Clients who have regular lip enhancements or are unhappy with the results from other practitioner’s work, may require a dissolve procedure if migration or lumps start to form (covered in your consultation). Migration is easily treated by dissolving the filler, then you would be advised to wait 2/4 weeks before any new filler placement, allowing your tissues time to settle.
