Microneedling EPN Pen

What Is Micro-Needling?

Micro-needling is a minimally invasive treatment used to target a variety of skin conditions on the face and body. Needles are used to penetrate the skin at a variety of depths to create a wound healing response. This in turn encourages the skin to produce new collagen and elastin to give clients younger-looking skin.

What Is Electroporation Technology?

EPN is the abbreviation for Electroporation needle. Electroporation is a technique in which an electrical field is applied to the skin’s cells to increase the permeability of the membranes, allowing topical products to be introduced into the cell more efficiently. Its application to the skin has been shown to significantly increase transdermal product delivery. Electroporation can be used alone or in combination with skin micro-needling which enhances the range of products that can be delivered trans-dermally.

How Does EPN Pen Work?

Our EPN Pen combines electroporation and micro-needling technology to give clients maximum skin rejuvenating results, through the stimulation of the skin’s own wound healing process and the increased absorption of active ingredients.

Microneedling TreatmentDoes Micro-Needling Hurt?

During a micro-needling treatment, there is generally minimal discomfort to the client. The EPN Pen uses ultrafine needles, which provide more comfort than other devices. You should feel a warming sensation following treatment which will then subside over the course of a few hours. Topical anaesthetics can be used for clients with sensitive skin, should they wish to apply prior to the treatment.

How Long Does It Take To See Results From Micro-Needling?

Some clients feel a difference in the elasticity of their skin in as little as 24 hours. However, the long- lasting results will be seen between 4-6 weeks post-treatment as this is the time frame in which it takes the body to produce new healthy collagen and elastin.

What Will My Skin Look Like After The Treatment?

Immediately after treatment the skin can appear pink, slightly swollen and feel warm. The micro-wounds caused from micro-needling usually take up to 24hours to heal. Post-treatment side effects should subside over the 2-4 days.

How Many EPN Pen Treatments Will I Need?

Treatment intervals and the total number of sessions vary for each client depending on their individual skin concerns. Generally, we would recommend a minimum course of 3/6 sessions following a review to determine if any further sessions are required.

Microneedling For Fine LinesHow Long Should Be Left Between Treatments?

Lynton suggest generally leaving 4 weeks between treatments using a longer depth needle (1.5mm), whereas treatments provided with a shallow needle can be repeated after 2 weeks if the skin has healed.

What Can Be Treated With The EPN Pen?

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne and surgical scars
  • Skin tone
  • The appearance of stretch marks
  • Skin texture
  • Skin laxity
  • Reduce open pores

I Have Pitted Acne Scarring; Can This Be Treated?

Yes! We have seen fantastic results using the EPN Pen for pitted acne scarring which does not respond to skincare or peels. The results achieved will depend on the depth of the scar, so Lynton suggest a minimum of 3 treatments, then a review to suggest providing another course, if needed.

Will I Need Anaesthetic For EPN Pen Treatment?

All clients have a variable pain threshold; many will tolerate the treatment well and not need any anaesthetic. Some clients may find the treatment uncomfortable and may choose to use a topical anaesthetic prior to arriving for their treatment. If your practitioner is using a deeper needle depth, we recommend anaesthetic use, as there may be more discomfort at these levels of micro-needling.

Microneedling For Open PoresCan We Treat Any Skin Type?

Yes! However, we generally recommend treating more cautiously when treating darker skin types due to the increased risk of pigmentation changes.

Botox / Filler / Thread lifts. Can I Still Have A Treatment?

We recommend waiting 4 weeks after Botox or superficial hyaluronic acid injectable fillers such as Restylane & Teoxane before having an EPN treatment.
If you have had thread lifts, we advise to wait 6 months before having the EPN treatment.

I Have Melasma Or Patchy Pigmentation. Can I Have The EPN?

Unfortunately, not. Melasma is a pigmentary disorder that presents itself as symmetrical pigmented areas, commonly on the forehead, cheeks, and upper lip. Any treatments that cause inflammation can potentially worsen this condition, so micro-needling is not recommended. However, our VI peel is ideal to help treat this condition.

Are There Any Contraindications To Treatment?

There are several medical conditions that would contraindicate someone from treatment. These include anyone in general poor health, those with cancer, pregnant women, those with metal implants near the treatment area, those with a history of Bell’s Palsy, keloid scarring or active cold sores. Contraindications can be found on your consultation form.

I have Skin Peels/Microdermabrasion, Can I Have Micro-Needling Too?

Yes! At Purity we offer a wide selection of services /products to offer a range of different treatments. These will be explored at your consultation to help address all your concerns. It is advised to leave 2-4 weeks between these treatments, depending on the depth of the peel/microdermabrasion.

Medik8 Active RangeShould I Use A Skincare Routine That Contains Acids?

Absolutely! You should expect to see better results if you are currently using products that promote exfoliation, growth, and hydration of the skin. Due to the nature of the device, we suggest avoiding ‘active’ skincare (acid-based formulations) for 5 -7 days pre and post treatment, covered in your consultation.
